They help us to learn more about our family’s history and culture. Family stories bring us together, teach us about the past, and help us to understand who we are.
A Place to Call Home

Homes come in all shapes and sizes and each one is unique. Around the world, different people live in different kinds of homes built from many different kinds of materials. Homes can be built near beaches, in the mountains, in the desert, in the forest, in the city and sometimes even in the treetops or underground. We all need a place to call home.
Playing in the Park
Year 1
Parks are essential to our communities. They provide a place for people to gather, play, exercise, explore, create, and connect. Parks can include built features such as playgrounds, sports fields, bridges, fountains, and picnic areas. They also include natural features such as trees, rocks, rivers, and creeks. National parks are beautiful places to visit and explore and help us to learn more about our natural world and our cultural history.
Hidden Wonders
Year 1
There are more minibeasts on Earth than any other type of animal, including humans. Whilst some of these tiny creatures are pests, most minibeasts are valuable friends to our gardens. They are a vital part of all ecosystems and have very important jobs to do. Minibeasts are often celebrated in artworks, films, stories, television shows, songs, and rhymes.
Cultural Celebrations
Year 1
Across the world, people enjoy celebrating milestones, special days, and their religious and cultural heritage. These events are celebrated with family and friends and often include delicious food, presents, music, dancing and the arts. Sometimes these events are marked with prayer or quiet reflection. By sharing our cultural traditions and celebrating together, we can show respect for one another and build a stronger sense of community.
Then and Now
Year 1
Learning about the past can also help us to prepare us for the future. It can make us think about how life will change as we grow older and which parts of our life we hope will remain the same. Parents, grandparents, and other important older people have memories and stories about what life was like when they were a child. We can learn many things by being curious about their experiences and listening as they share their stories and memories.
Managing Emotions
Year 2
We all experience different emotions and feelings, they are a normal part of who we are as humans. Learning to name emotions and describe how they make us think and feel can help us to manage them better. If we are in charge of our emotions we can build and maintain positive relationships with others.
Together Through Toys
Year 2
Toys help us learn, share, communicate, discover, imagine, and create. Toys are also a great way to explore how life has changed over time. Some toys, like board games and hula hoops, have stood the test of time whilst others are no longer popular. Toys can bring people together and help us build friendships with others.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Year 2
Waste is a big problem in Australia and we send more and more rubbish to landfill every year. Most of the stuff that we throw away takes quite a while to decompose. In fact, some of the stuff that we throw away will be around much longer than any of us. We all have a responsibility to reduce our waste. Learning to reduce, reuse and recycle our waste helps us to live more sustainably and protect our planet.
Connection to Place
Year 2
We all have places that are important to us and that strengthen our feelings of belonging. Our connection to a place might be because of our culture or our family history. We might also feel connected to a place because of the way it makes us feel, or the memories that we have of spending time there. The First Peoples of Australia have very strong connections to places and use stories, songs, dance, music, to share this connection through generations.
We Are Australian
Year 3
Australia is a diverse and multicultural country, made up of people from all over the world. Each person brings with them their own personal story, traditions, and ideas that make our communities vibrant and interesting. The First Peoples of Australia have lived on this land for over 65,000 years. Each group of the First Peoples of Australia have different traditions and stories that represent their culture and form their cultural and spiritual identity.
Australia's Neighbours
Year 3
Good neighbours look out for each other, share aspects of our lives, and help each other when needed. Australia's closest neighbours include Fiji, Indonesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu. There are lots of exciting and interesting things we can see and do in our neighbouring countries. Being a tourist and visiting Australia’s neighbours is a great way to learn more, support one another, and share aspects of our lives.
Get Active
Year 3
Whilst kids love to play and be active, around eighty percent of children in Australia are not getting the recommended sixty minutes of vigorous physical activity needed everyday. Being active has a huge range of benefits for our physical, mental and social health. Fostering a more sports-minded culture is one way we can encourage kids to be more physically active.
Join the Club
Year 3
Establishing clubs in schools is a great way for students to come together, feel connected, share passions and interests with others, and build new skills. When forming a club, it is important to think about how we can make the rules fair and to make decisions in a collective and collaborative way. This enables all of the members of the group to be active participants and to feel respected and valued.
The Buzz About Bees
Year 4
Bees are responsible for one-third of the world’s food and without them, many species of animals would become extinct. Bees across the world are facing threats to their habitat and food sources, and bee populations are decreasing rapidly. We would not be able to survive for long without bees as our food security and the entire ecosystem depends on them.
Edible Gardens
Year 4
Everyday, all over the world, people tend to vegetable gardens, prune fruit trees, grow and harvest crops, plant seeds, pull out weeds, compost food scraps, cultivate soil, and propagate plants. The First Peoples of Australia have been eating native food, or ‘bush tucker,’ for thousands of years. As long as plants have what they need to grow and thrive, people can make edible gardens in all sorts of interesting places and in interesting ways.
The Impact of First Contact

1788 saw the arrival of the First Fleet in Sydney Cove. The goal of the First Fleet was to transport prisoners to Australia and establish convict settlements. The arrival of Europeans came as a great surprise to the First Peoples of Australia and this time is often referred to as ‘First Contact’. There were some fundamental differences between the two cultures which led to some significant difficulties and hardships that have had a lasting impact.
Age of Exploration

During the Age of Exploration, from the 15th Century to the 18th Century, navigators, explorers and traders from European nations took long and dangerous journeys. It was one of the most important times in the history of world geography because a significant portion of the unknown world was mapped during this short period. The journeys of these brave explorers paved the way for future explorers and travellers.

When we recognise the difference between our physical needs and our wants and the influences on our financial choices, we can make good decisions about how to spend our money. Learning how to save money for the things we really want is an important skill to prepare us for a financially responsible future.

Hundreds of thousands of Australians are affected by natural disasters every year and these experiences can have significant physical, financial, and emotional impacts on people's lives. We can find out more about them, how and why they occur, and the impacts they have on people, animals, and the natural world. We can also learn about the ways people and communities support and look after one another during and after these events.
Journey to the Red Planet

Mars has intrigued humankind for thousands of years. After Earth, it is considered to be the most habitable planet in our solar system. Scientists are getting closer to sending human explorers to Mars. People all across the world are developing creative and innovative solutions to figure out how humans could live a sustainable and comfortable life on the Red Planet.
Voting for Change
Year 5
In Australia’s democracy, citizens have rights, freedoms, and responsibilities that impact on their day to day lives. Through sharing ideas, voting in elections, and standing up for one another, all Australians can have a say in how they want their country to run and the issues that are most important. Communities in a democracy work together to make and inspire change.
Entrepreneurial Thinking
Year 6
It takes just one great idea to start a business. Successful business leaders are entrepreneurial thinkers. They see solutions to problems, look for patterns and emerging trends, consider gaps in the market, and find ways to make a real difference in the world. Entrepreneurs can inspire social change, they can motivate people to act in response to big issues including poverty, social injustice, and climate change.
Discover Democracy
Year 6
Being active in our democracy means that we can have a say in how we want our country to run, what issues are important to us, and what changes we would like to see. It is important for citizens to speak up for themselves and others to ensure everyone is treated fairly and with respect. Highlighting issues that are important to people, animals and the natural world assists our governments to make positive changes for us, our communities, and for future generations.
A Life Less Lonely
Year 6
Loneliness is a growing issue around the world, affecting people of all ages. Research shows that loneliness can have a profound impact not just on our mental health but also on our physical health. Whilst there is a link between social media and loneliness, it is complex and depends on the individual and their life circumstances. How can we help others feel more connected and to live happier, less lonely lives?
Schools for the Future
Year 6
Our rapidly changing world has many experts across the globe calling for changes to our schools to better equip students with the skills they will need to thrive later in life. They believe that schools should better reflect the advances in technology and include greater emphasis on the 21st-century skills. Learning what is happening in other schools can help us explore possibilities and potential changes for our own learning environments.
